Job Vacancy: Ecosystems Support Officer

Published Date

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is the statutory adviser to the UK Government and Devolved Administrations on UK and international nature conservation. One of JNCC’s key roles is provision of evidence on biodiversity and ecosystems. JNCC are looking to recruit a full time Ecosystems Support Officer based in Peterborough. This is a 2 year fixed term appointment.

A core part of JNCC’s evidence activities are understanding impacts on the environment through spatial mapping and modelling, the assessment of key ecosystems components and how their functions can be linked to ecosystem services.

The Ecosystem Support Officer will work in the Ecosystem Analysis team. This technical team coordinates a range of National Species Monitoring Schemes and delivers analytical work using modelling and earth observation methods. The post holder will work across an interesting range of projects both within the UK and internationally, including across the UK Overseas Territories.

The position advertised would require someone with strong GIS skills to support the management and analysis of a variety of spatial data sources, from species samples to earth observation data. Ideally, candidates will have broad relevant ecological knowledge.

For more information about the skills/competencies required for this post, visit our website www.jncc.defra.gov.uk/jobs where you can download the details and the relevant application form and find out more about our work.

The closing date is 9:00 on 23 July 2018.

Interviews are expected to take place during week commencing 06 August 2018.
