ISPRS NEWS: International Workshop on Earth Observation for Agricultural Monitoring

Published Date

As you are aware, Agriculture was a major focus in the early development of remote sensing and today remains a major driver of global Earth Observation (EO) programmes.  In recent years, there has been tremendous development in the availability of satellite data and the tools/technologies for EO data analysis for agriculture. Additionally, various initiatives have been taken for operationalization of the applications of EO for Agriculture.  India, which started its remote sensing activity, in 1969, with the famous coconut root wilt assessment experiment, is attaining 50 years of remote sensing program in the country.

In this context, an international workshop is planned to review the status of Earth Observation for Agricultural Monitoring, at global, regional and national levels, and to discuss and propose the future course of action. The workshop will be conducted during February 18-20, 2019, in New Delhi. This will be followed by a 2-Day Tutorial on Advances in Remote Sensing for Agriculture, on February 21-22, 2019. A flyer for the workshop is enclosed for your kind perusal.

The workshop is being jointly organised by the global agricultural monitoring programme of the Group on Earth Observations (GEOGLAM); the International Society for Photogrammetery and Remote Sensing, ISPRS (through its working group III/10) and the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS). It is supported by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Indian Space Research Organization, SARI (South/Southeast Asia Research Initiative) and Asia-RiCE Programme. The workshop is being hosted by the Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre, Indian Agricultural Research Institute and ISRS Delhi Chapter.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in this important workshop and present your research work on agricultural monitoring. Details are available on the website http://ncfc.gov.in/isprs/
