About RSPSoc

A Brief History of RSPSoc

The Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) is the United Kingdom’s leading learned society dedicated to the advancement of remote sensing, photogrammetry, and Earth observation.

RSPSoc was formed in 2001 through the merger of two established organisations: the Photogrammetric Society, founded in 1952, and the Remote Sensing Society, founded in 1974. By bringing together these complementary disciplines, the Society created a single professional home for researchers, practitioners, educators, and students working across the geospatial sector.

Since its formation, RSPSoc has played a key role in promoting excellence in research, innovation, education, and professional practice. The Society fosters collaboration between academia, industry, government, and the wider geospatial community while supporting the development and application of technologies that help us better understand and manage our world.

Today, RSPSoc continues to provide professional development opportunities, conferences, publications, awards, grants, and networking events for members across the UK and internationally. As the UK’s adhering body to the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), it remains at the forefront of advancing remote sensing and photogrammetry for the benefit of science, industry, and society.
