Each of the awards has specific criteria on the application form. These will be checked for each application, before an award is made. In general terms all awards are subject of the following five criteria.

● All entrants must be an RSPSoc member for a minimum of 3 months.

● All awards will have a winner, a runner up and possibly a number of highly commended. Each will receive an electronic certificate.

● All entrants agree to limited publicity about their entry and themselves for the purposes of furthering RSPSoc’s charitable objects. Winners should be willing to write a short (500 word maximum) story for the website/promotional material on what they spent the prize money on and how it has supported them, within 12 months of the award.

● The decisions of the awards committee are final and there is no right of appeal.

● Applications for some of the awards by students will need to be endorsed by your supervisor or employer.

Current Awards and Grants Available

Student Award

To showcase the best dissertation.

This award can cover research costs and attendance at conferences.
 
Eligible costs are for any activity linked to the preparation of the dissertation, and conference/training costs during the preparation of the dissertation and in the year after its completion.

Bill Barlow Award

The Bill Barlow Award (up to £2,000) is for NON-conference-related activities in Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Earth Observation and related disciplines by a student, such as (not exhaustive) data, fieldwork costs, support for overseas exchange/internship.

The student must be a member to be eligible to apply for the award. The application must be supported by their supervisor in the form of a letter of support.

International Award

For the development of new professionals outside the UK

This award can cover the costs of an innovative or ground-breaking idea and/or piece of research. It can be used for research costs, attendance at conferences and any formal development.

Eligible costs are for any activity linked to your development and for research/fieldwork both prior to the application and in the year after the award.

Business Innovation Award

For the development of innovative ideas

This award can cover the costs of an innovative or ground-breaking idea and/or piece of research. It can be used for research costs, attendance at conferences and any formal development. Eligible costs are for any activity linked to your development and for research/fieldwork both prior to the application and in the year after the award.

Sir Paul Curran Award

The Sir Paul Curran award (£1000) is for early to mid career professionals with more than 2 years current employment experience in Earth observation related realms. The award can be used to help develop your career by (not exhaustive) extending knowledge and skills research in the remote sensing and photogrammetry fields, attendance at conferences and any formal development training.

Presidents Award

For the best paper or contribution in any of the publications or events delivered or sponsored by the RSPSoc or an RSPSoc corporate member. It will be published by RSPSoc.

This award can cover research costs, attendance at conferences and any formal development. Eligible costs are for any activity linked to your development and for research/fieldwork both prior to the application and in the year after the award.
